Everyone needs a best friend, right? You spend your whole life looking for a special connection with someone who just understands you. Someone you can be totally yourself with, as weird and wild as you may be, and they only love you more for it; A soul mate. I’m so blessed to say I found that person over twenty years ago! Let me introduce you to the birthday girl.. my best friend, my soul mate, my partner in crime (mostly solving it on Detective Barbie, of course).. Destiny ♥
Destiny and I grew up in the small town of Clarksburg before her family moved out to Las Vegas. We spent our days totally boy crazy at Clarksburg Elementary School and our evenings obsessing over Barbies and Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ la Vida Loca”. Over twenty years later, she’s still my other half and I can’t imagine my life without her. She’s everything I could ask for in a best friend.
She keeps me positive and motivated but she never backs away from keeping it real with me. I can’t even begin to express how important that is. All through out your life you will find people who will tell you what you want to hear, whenever you want to hear it. These people are not helping you, they are hurting you. Friendship isn’t about making the other person feel like they are perfect. It’s about encouraging them to be the best version of them that they could imagine being. When you truly care for someone, you don’t sit back and watch them fail knowing you influenced their poor choices. I can always count on Destiny to tell me when she thinks I’m making a poor choice and no matter what choice I make after her advice, she is always there to support me. She helps me become a better version of myself everyday.
So Destiny,Â
Today we celebrate you! The girl I can always count on to dance the Macarena with me in the middle of the night. The girl who inspired and encouraged me to be the hairstylist I am today. The girl who will binge watch Chris D’Elia with me while rockin’ pizza pasties. The girl who, to this day, would wear matching “I’m a Barbie Girl” shirts with me with no shame. Heres to turning twenty-four, to being the greatest friend I could even ask for, to being the realest, and to being my biggest supporter. I wish you the happiest of birthdays because you deserve nothing but the best! You are an amazing person and I am so thankful for you. I love you to the moon and back!
